I hope your week is off to a good start! We have been super busy over here in Addis with a jam-packed schedule but it has been super rewarding! So let me break it down for you as to what we have done and please bare in mind that I am writing this on Tuesday night here in Ethiopia so I am guessing that it is just around lunch time for you now!
Yesterday we met with a senior researcher of the leading think tank of the African continent discussing the African Union Summit and issues such as financing, peace and security, the International Criminal Court and article 4H of the Constitutive act of the African Union. It was very special to be able to get an opinion on many pressing issues that would otherwise not be spoken about so candidly if asked to, lets say, members of the AU.
We also were able to visit the "Red Terror" Martyrs Memorial Museum which memorializes the martyrs of the "Red Terror" while preserving artifacts, photographs and rare documents of the brutal and horrible history of the Ethiopian people. It was certainly a very moving museum, being that not only was it a very intimate space but the recounting of the events, slaughters and injustices through the photographs and artifacts really struck a chord with our emotions and brought the horrific idea of genocide to the forefront of all of our minds.
I am off to bed friends, I hope you have the best Tuesday!
